Default Kohler K301 rebuild advice in Central Texas

The K301 on my 128 has given up the ghost. It has developed a lower end rattle, smokes and fouls the plug after an hour of cutting grass. I am looking into having the engine rebuilt, or buying one rebuilt. I came across a rebuilt short block on EBay for $879 plus my core. They are in Ohio and I am in Texas, near Austin. Does someone know if someone local to me who offers a rebuild service, or a little better price in one mail order?

If you have the ability and desire to do the rebuild yourself, there is this guy on eBay
(who is in Tomball, Texas) that does cylinder boring.
I know nothing about him other than his feedback is 100% positive.
Maybe he can help you.

Unfortunately the ad reads “ No lawnmowers, Briggs, Kohler”. Thanks though.

I didn't catch that, but he could possibly give you some leads to a shop that does?

Ironman:

What is confusing about that eBay Ad, was the listing in metric. 56mm is equal to 2.2 inches. That is small for a Kohler.

Seller has other eBay ads offering services for boring larger cylinders and other special services for more money.

I saw another seller in NY offering similar services and will do Kohler and BS blocks. However, free shipping only applies to jugs. With that being said, maybe the Texas machinist didn't want to deal with the shipping costs? It does not hurt to ask!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
