1864 Mufflers

I have an 1864 with a Kohler Command EFI engine that I put in a while ago. It has the 1 inch diameter oil dip stick filler. With the original muffler I was able to put a dent into the dip stick tube and get the muffler to work. The original muffler is dead. I bought one a few years ago new from Cub which is the one on the left. The cross pipe is even closer to the engine then the original and I cannot dent the dip stick tube enough to make it work.

The image on the right is from one of the vendors. Is this the latest cub muffler? It looks like it might not fit into the heat shields. Has anyone used this on a cyclops with the stock heat shields?

I was able to remove the dip stick tube. What do I use to glue it back in?

I've had both those style mufflers on my 1864.
The engine in mine is a 23hp command out of a newer gt2554.
I had to massage both mufflers to get them to fit with the big oil tube.

Did one of the new style mufflers fail quickly? Just wondering, given how long the original lasted on my 1864.

Is it possible to convert to the smaller diameter tube? My 25hp command that I put in new last year has the small diameter tube and I have the new muffler on the left in your photos that I got straight from cub cadet last year as well.

My 1864 was very loud but the muffler is in pretty good shape. Upon closer inspection it appears someone cut the end of it off and maybe tried to remove the baffle?

I have crushed the wide tube almost flat. With the new muffler it clears the exhaust by 1/8th of an inch. I will try to adapt it to a narrow tube. I am thinking of cutting the old tube down and using JB Weld HighHeat epoxy to hold the narrow tube in whats left of the wide tube. I will report back once it is done. I am waiting for the oxygen sensor bung to be welded into the new muffler. I hope to get it soon. The grass is growing pretty fast here now that the drought it over.

I would have a machine shop make a bushing and then weld the old tube to it.

I ended up buying the Kohler Dipstick kit 24-755-121. I had to remove 3/8 of an inch from the bottom of the tube I used to get the oil level to read correctly.
I used JB Weld High Heat epoxy to hold the new tube into the cut section of the larger one. The kit includes Loctite 680 retaining compound. That seals the old tube to the block. Everything seems solid.
The local auto shop did a good job of welding the oxygen sensor bung into the new muffler.
The exhaust outlet is lower then it should be so I cannot use the grill. I don't think I want to try and bend the muffler to make the grill fit.

After I put my new muffler on, the hole in the grill was a little too high so I used a dremel tool and elongated the hole a little. They must not have checked the fit very well when they designed the new style

I mowed the yard yesterday. Checked the dipstick tube today and it is still solid. Hopefully it will last.
