It's the same image twice, but I circled where the belt rubs in the second one.
The 44" was too narrow and the gauge wheels hung up on the rear tires once I installed the correct diameter. The 50" runs fine except the belt drags on the sub frame. Neither were original to the tractor, so something needs changed and is not right. The only thing that makes sense to me is the front deck hangers, but I only see one part number listed and I sold the other deck 2 years ago, so I cannot compare, but my memory says the hangers on this deck are shorter.

Are you "hanging" the deck on the mule drive or is it running on the anti scalp wheels?
it needs to hang on the pins in the back and in the support hangers in the front. Your pix shows the deck is not hanging on elongated supports, it is pushing on the bottom of the elongated supports Try adjusting that, also move then as high as the you can and still have your deck properly adjusted a bit lower in the front. |

Looks like the wrong mule drive to me. The hangers on the front of the deck should be on the outside hole.

I don't know if any of this will help but these are snip clics from Cub Cadet Form 772-3791. I have it on my hard drive but I can't find it anywhere on the web to download.

But I'm not familiar with a 982 mule system. When I put a 50" deck on my 1650, it uses a non offset mule and inner front hanger hole like he pictured. Snap a pix or two of your front idler mounting on the mule, they should be offset and be the wider pulleys for the 5/8" wide belt. |

It looks like he has the correct hanger, but it should be in the correct hole on the front hanger, also the manual for the deck install shows this hole with the link installed.

Something just don't add up. Most of us know the 44C and 50C decks mount the same. He claims they don't.

A photo of the mule drive might help. Here's the page from the manual explaining which holes the mower frame mounts to on the mule drive. Note the 982 uses hole #3 (rear most).

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
