Great score!

For the little bit of money your going to spend to make it 100% functional will be soooooooooo worth it.

NIK,
Replacing the battery will hopefully be the single most expensive part, however, I am sure that the other parts and fluids will total to be more than a $100 battery. Rest of the work is just my labor, and time behind a power washer. I'm still not sure where to buy parts other than thru the dealer... will dealer even have the parts I need for a 20 year old tractor? Once I get this thing mobile, I might find that some of the steering components need to be replaced as this tractor has not seen a grease gun in many, many years :-(

Great score on the cub. Like some of the fellow cub guys on here said, its so totally worth spending some money on. My 122 didnt run when i got it but 500 bucks later she ran and has never had any engine work done since 1966 the day she rolled off the line new, im only the 3rd owner and her last. but dont be afraid to spend some on her. ur cub will be great once u get everything going Jeep. keep us posted

I figure in labor only (shop rates), I'll have more invested in the tractor than it's worth, not sure what the parts will cost, but I'm not planning on selling it so cost to repair versus market value isn't a concern. I once rebuilt and brought a 1941 Allis Chalmers "C" tractor back from death...

It looked rougher than this one (I found on eBay) and had been sitting in a field for a few years without a cover on the exhaust pipe..... the inside of that engine required a lot of work and $$$.

Here is photo of a 1941 Allis Chalmers "C" tractor listed on eBay......

Just wanted to bring everyone up-to-date, I was able to work on the 1861, flushed fuel system, barrow a battery out of another tractor, and with a little work, I got this tractor running. It was running very well. It still needs some work to make it functional, but at least now I know I have more than scrap metal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
