Soon to be a CC 149 Owner.
I've been looking around for a heavier compact tractor for about a year to use on a one acre food plot. Tomorrow, I pick up a 1973 149 with a push blade and a tiller. The tractor is missing the mule and corner drive to power the tiller but I'm looking at ways around that. I'm retired as a welder, machinist, and hydraulic repairman. At home I have a welder, plasma cutter, lathe, milling machine and a press.
From pics, the tractor looks to be in good shape, including the tin. It has the rear hydraulic lift and the seller said a front hydraulic lift on the under belly mount push blade, but the latter I believe he is confused about. Anyway, this was the site that kept popping up when Cub Cadet was typed into the search, so I thought I'd better join up and join in. Should also mention that I live smack in the middle of British Columbia. Rod.

Welcome aboard. The 149 is a great tractor. It sounds like you have the knowledge and tools to handle any problems that you may have. Some of the old Sears mower decks had gear boxes you might be able to use.

Welcome to OCC.
FWIW: You will need to have the mule drive in front, the long belt, and the right angle gear box and mount in back. Best to find someone with those items for sale, sometimes a person wants to sell the complete tiller assy for a couple hundred bucks. Hell the belt is over $100 Time you jury rig something up that might not work out, you are best to go the proven factory stuff, it is available you just have to look.

I brought it home tonight. Seems like it was well cared for, tin and paint is all good and no butchering that I can see. The rear lift has been homemade, but that's all bolted on and soon to come off. Not much chance of finding many salvage units here in BC for parts so some proper fabbing will be in order. I am leaning heavily toward mounting a ten horse motor on the tiller. The tractor will never have a mower, so finding all the donor parts for the mule drive is not a priority, but I can certainly appreciate the advice of going all stock.
If I can figure out how to post pics. I'll put some up. Thanks for the welcomes!
