That's a great find. Congrats!
Hopefully by "blowed up" he meant "ran out of gas."

Thanks everyone.
Well, it's locked up tight. I can move the crank about 1/2" and that's it. So I pulled the engine today, and took a better look around everything. It has the usual caked on dirt and crud, so I will remove the fenders, and give it a good bath, and go from there. Overall, it's in "pretty good" shape. It's a KT1, so it's prolly used up. Oh, didn't help it any that there wasn't a drop of oil on the stick. Going to pull it apart, and see what let go. I can hear a "clunk" inside just by being able to move it that little bit... I still like it. Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. (John, it's my shop, what looks different?) upload a pic

That's to bad, i was really hoping it would be something simple. So, does the paint look as nice in person as it does in pics?

Sucks about the engine. At least it didn’t window the crankcase.
It’s so original. I’d be tempted to rebuild that s1 if possible just to keep it a time capsule.

On another subject, what do you guys salvage off the KT's when they blow? The coil & the carb, anything else?

Wow Todd, that is a nice looking 682 and it looks to be a keeper. You were due for a good project to keep us slackers entertained. I wish I had the time to finish my 3205 that has been apart all summer.

A totally disassembled KT doesn't take up a ton of space. A couple of boxes for the bric-a-brac, and a little room for the crankcase/jugs.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
