Front PTO on a 105 for QA36 thrower
Can a pto be “readjusted” ? Rebuilt it 4 yrs ago, and found it was slipping ( can turn it by hand) when engaged. I do intend to get a kit and do a rebuild, but was wondering if readjusting was even possible in an emergency. Also is there a heavy duty version of the kit? I see 2 spring kits available, just not clear on their applications. Thanks, Steve

Checkout the technical section of this forum.
Go to "pto" section. Did it work after you rebuilt it? Sometimes they need to be adjusted a bit more or less than the gauge spec. |

Later WF tractors with larger engines used a different spring. |

Hi Charlie... before going too far I'd go thru the tech section that was listed and make sure and double check you got the adjustment right the first time. John

Did the rebuild kit 4 yrs ago and It worked well for the past 3. Primary use for the Cub is snow throwing. It just started to slip this week. Ordering a repair kit tomorrow but first I want to pull the pto, and take it apart just to have a look. Thanks for the responses, Steve

The 147 does use two discs due to the increased HP. Supposed to hold stronger.

You should be able to rotate the PTO pulley by hand (with some resistance from the fiber button on the clutch) when the clutch is disengaged--when the actuator handle is pulled back toward the operator and the fiber button is pushing in on the clutch.
When the clutch is engaged, with the actuator handle forward, the PTO pulley will turn the engine over. A properly adjusted clutch should last many years---in mowing duty, probably 15 years or more. Yes you can adjust the clutch. But you have to remove it to do so. Perhaps your locknuts (jam nuts) on the adjusting screws have come loose? You'll need a thin open end wrench plus a second one, to hold the inner nut while you tighten the outside nut. I ground down a wrench to get it thin enough.

Just found during last Sunday”s storm, that I could rotate the PTO by hand when it was engaged.(which would explain why it was throwing poorly) This rebuild will be the 2nd one I have done. Thanks, Steve

Charlie105 you may want to have the clutch surfaces resurfaced to remove any uneven areas. This may help with longevity and performance too.

Taking the disc to a shop to have it resurfaced before reassembly. The last rebuild I only lapped the disc ona sheet of wet/dry 100 paper. Thanks for all the input.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
