Here's why I swapped the tires, and what the 1250 looks like with different ones.

Has anyone here ever used Valspar cub cadet yellow on anything? If so, is it a good paint? Not planning on repainting my whole frame from bare metal but I want to cover up the stupid puke green on the sides.

Cubs have been painting with everything from Ace Hardware paint, custom auto blended paints, to OEM paints.

Valspar is no better or worse than any other paint. It is YOUR tractor, your time, your money, your budget, paint it as you see fit.

I bet what he really wants to know is if it a quality paint that can withstand tractor use / abuse and weather etc. He may also want to know how good a match it is for the older Cub Yellow.. as that is what I'd like to know as well.

I have used the Valspar paint with pretty decent results. The yellow is a very close match for the yellow used on a 1772 and 1782. I was able to touch up and blend in to my satisfaction. As for the long term durability, I can't answer. I do like the fact that it is around $9 for an aerosol can vs the $19 for the genuine Cub stuff. My 2 cents.

I guess I'll figure that out because half the tractor's getting repainted. I guess I'll tape everything off, rough up the old puke green paint, 3 coats of valspar, then semi-gloss clear coat and wet sand.

Ah, there's nothing like the anxiousness of waiting to rip something apart. Just need to put the old muffler back on, take the tractor up to our shed, and then tear the tractor down. The 1650 rear end is getting the 1250's trunion springs, brakes, and a few other parts. The 1650 trunion has a piece of almost solid rubber and isn't very worn out because early in its life the trunion springs flew out, so the PO before the PO replaced with a piece of rubber, which is seriously hard.

Got her back inside after about a month and a half. She must've been salty about sitting in the cold, she absolutely did not want to start. A dead battery and the head gasket leak didn't help much. Made a nice smoke show, though, I guess PB blaster in the muffler will do that. Put the old muffler back on and fixed the one engine tin. Cleaned and touched up my hood IH logo. Teardown will start soon.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
