Tim, I know just how you feel, I had to put down my little pal a few months ago. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I have lost close family members that didn't hurt me as bad as losing him. Of all the dogs I have ever had, He was the only dog that, I swear, I think he was a human in a past life. He knew when I was happy, and he knew when I was down. When the vet put him down I was holding him and he looked up at me with that kind look he always had, and a look that said it's ok.
I'm sorry for your lose and like you i'll never have another dog, cause like my wife I will never find another like them.

I've lost 2 of my best friends. The first one I had to have my Dad pick her up and bury at the farm. The last one I placed her in the car and drove an hour to the farm to bury her. That was the longest dam drive ever. Remember the old joke. Lock your wife and dog in the trunk of the car for an hour. Then open the trunk and see which one still loves you.

So sorry, man. We don't know if we'll get another one after little Alex is gone. He's such a neat little guy! Had dogs all my life, though so it's hard to say. Time will tell.

So very sorry for the loss Tim.
Hate to say it, but all that people food didn't do her joints any good. I've found this out the hard way, two labs ago.
We used to give our labs, well any dog we had table scraps. And when we had snacks, the dog was sitting right alongside eating with us. Well they were overweight, and their joints were the first thing to go. It also caused some internal issues over time.
Our oldest, Ruger is 11, and he can barely get up anymore. We have him down, and strict diet now, but the damage was done years ago. When we got Colt a little over 4 years now, we said it's dog food, and only dog food.
Just had to get over the thought, they needed to eat like us. It was a tough transition to us, seeing those puppy dog eyes while we ate, but it's what's best for them. Sorry, went off the rail, but they need our guidence, or as you know, they will eat anything.
I'd be lost without Colt, he's my best friend, as Gunner was. I thought after him, we were going to keep Ruger till he's gone, then no more. Cause they, I don't know who "they" are, but they say you'll have one best dog in a lifetime, and I thought that was Gunner. But Colt moved right into the number one dog spot now.
He picks up anything I tell him in the shop, let's me know when someone comes down the driveway, cause I can't hear. One great dog. Give it time to heal, and reconsider. I'll even make you a heck of a deal. Colt (Chocolate) is going to be breading with my cousins yellow lab sometime in December.
Both are papered up, with six generations worth of lineage. We have pick of the litter, so we would give it to you for a Lew deal.
Cause you can't be without a dog. Plus you could bring a couple tractors home with you too.
