PLASTIC carburetor???
My neighbor is letting me borrow his "new" Murray push mower from 2015, so I can get some exercise in while cutting grass. I say "new" because he only used it twice then got a riding mower. But he forgot to drain the gas so the carb was all gummed up.
We pulled the carb off to attempt to clean it, and low and behold the damn thing was made of PLASTIC. In fact, almost the entire engine appears to be plastic. I even had to double take to make sure the block was indeed metal, as it looked very plastic-y as well. We ended up replacing the carb and it runs and cuts but still I'm baffled at this! How is B&S getting away with this stuff? Is a plastic carburetor even a good idea? I feel like this entire thing is just made to throw away... |

I've never seen a plastic carburetor on anything. Granted most of the equipment I've worked on is from 2000-back...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
