Yeah that's basically what I did on these ones, on the one Ariens I did, I used pretty much the same thing but I didn't leave the nut on because there was so little room between the nut on and flush and the steering wheel hub. That one was the one that I mushrooned. And the 2nd of those 2 that I dismantled. The other one was the one that I busted the bearing cages beating on . But I learned from that machine.

Been running it for a month and a half now...mostly impressed with the rebuild but I need another opinion about the box...I don't think the pitman arm is tight enough. I think I have too much lateral play. Since I've never done one of these before I'm not sure what to look for (I know the book says 3/32" of play is tolerable)-- I did the thrust bearing upgrade and was concerned about getting it too tight. I did a quick video- what do you think? Does it need more?
