Hello all, new 1450 project to use as I restore it
Hello Ladies and Gents,
I just bought a 1973 1450, that came with a plow and a extra Kohler 14hp. My Dad had a 1250 growing up, and had amazing memories on it. Looking to do the same for my kids. My 1450 runs, but once it warms up, it starts smoking. It's got a 14hp Kohler in it. I want to get the engine purring before putting it to work. I look forward to searching the forums for possible answers, I have along the way. First stop is how to adjust carb and points. It's got a revving problem. Thanks for having me!

 Go to the Technical Library Section, page #3 and download the K Series Service Manual.

I had the same issue with my Cub 125 with a Kohler K301. I performed a leak down test and it revealed that the rings were shot. I wound up taking the engine out of the tractor, tearing it all the way down to the bare block and taking the block to the machine shop for measuring and repair recommendations. Had to get a .030” over piston and recut valve seats to 46°. I bought an ultimate rebuild kit from the people that save tractors and I’m rebuilding the engine this weekend.
