Default Going to look at a 2082 tomorrow with bad engine

Friend told me he has a 2082 with a bad engine he thinks it's the cam. As the valves arent moving. He said it has a 48" deck only. Is this a good tractor to buy to repair? Any ideas what I should offer? He did replace electric clutch for belt for deck. Not cheap he said. Thanks Bob

The 2082 was built between 1990-1992 and is considered a SGT. It originally came with a Kohler M20-49512 engine in it.

You would have to consider (A) it's a SGT, (B) what the "roller" chassis is worth, and (C) the cost of rebuilding or re-powering the 20HP engine.

Past repairs are a moot point when "it's done blowed up"
That is a small deck, as they can have up to a 60" deck
look close at the plastic front ends as they are not known for holding up well.
Good pictures of it would be beneficial.
When an M18/M20 don't move the valves, most times it is not a "repair" but more of an engine replacement.
M-20's are not easily had, even the m-18s are getting less plentiful.
Some people repower with modern OHV engines but it isn't a $1.00-2.98 situation.
The good thing is they are a nice tractor with power steering.

Buy it, buy it, buy it.

But, seeing as how it has a rear PTO, He will know what he's got and it will be priced accordingly I'm sure!

Thumbs up

This is a great model. Magnums, while getting more difficult to find are still out there, especially the M18's.

Bought it. He just checking with wife. New electric clutch, new starter, new mower belt, and deck good. Tires excellent, and engine does not have a hole or leaks oil. So going back to pick up. The hood front missing. He has another sitting on it. $500.00.

It seems you can't beat a Magnum. What the KT series could have been.

My M18s do seem a little fuel hungry.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
