Dealer finally got my keyswitch in. Removed the previous owner's wiring nightmare back to the original harness and determined it needed a swtich. That took a bit to come in, but resolved the lingering issues after cleaning up the solenoid terminals.

Also fixed the overcharge issue

I noticed I'm losing the left cylinder at idle. Not sure why -- both compression tested the same, right at 100psi. Ordered plug wires b/c I noticed the left one can shock you through the cable.

I don't think it's the coil b/c the spark is pretty consistent on both sides when tested. They both pick right up with throttle, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

Plug wires showed up- hopefully I can trim to length and have some success.

The window A/C foam worked pretty good between the shroud and firewall.

All was well after some new plug wires. I did put on the 3 point and mowed a bit more. It's ready for winter now - needs some more hard use and possible carb work/adjustments (hunts when cold) in the spring.

Throwing another option out there, just posted same in another thread. After much research, the sage advice I ended up following was just to use a regular automotive type acrylic urethane single stage paint. Will be FAR more durable than the enamels sold at hardware stores. I ended up using Wimbledon White from Summit Racing which is priced very well. Not everyone wants to spray with a gun, I get that...it's a little more involved for sure. But man it looks good. My machine is a good bit newer so I don't know if the whites have changed over the years, or if you even care...but I think these really came out great.

Paints are $30/quart...so 2 colors plus the $40 activator and you've got a whole paint job for $100.

I had some rust repair to do on mine, so I went down to bare metal and used an epoxy primer. I highly recommend this step if you're doing anything similar. $26 for a quart of primer and $22 for the catalyst, also Summit Racing brand.

That turned out nice. I plan on spraying with a gun if I repaint this one, but Rustoleum Almond is such a nice match...I wonder if it would accept some hardener (should?).

Got the 982/4 out this week. Greased, checked tires, and plug aerated (3 point attachment). Seemed to work pretty good. Dropped the oil in it afterwards; lots of small things to do during this rainy weather.
