Cutting higher/more frequently might help. Plus it's a lot better for the grass to not knock off more than 1/3 of it at a time.

When I got the hr/tach and checked it and found it at 1800 for idle and 3200 for WOT, and assumed that's correct, but you post prompted me to Google what this Briggs & Stratton engine should be and it comes up with 3600.

As you say, it may not resolve the issue, but should get it closer to optimal.

I found a Youtube video on how to adjust it, and just need to buy myself a curved long nose pliers.

Take it to the dealer and let them fix it the right way. Messing with the linkage may void the warranty

A quick search yields a new 30H has a "3-year/120-hour limited residential warranty"
Back to the dealer for proper set up.
As the grass needs regular attention, get a dealer commitment for quick turn around service
