Default The 71

Well got started on the 71 i bought from a member of the group here. So i figured i would post from start to finish of the rebuild on her.

I hope yesterday was not a sign of how the rest is going to go, but we are going to do it any how. lol

will take pics of the entire process. comments and helpful info are not only welcome but encouraged and might even say begged for.

This tractor was posted in the for sale are of the site here, bought it and and had it shipped via Speedie delivery from IA to Huron, SD. Thats where we start fresh from the farm still on the pallet.

Then came Saturday was going to try to get up and get the before shots. The little girl started right up when i got oil and gas in her on the pallet, i was happy as bull in a field of cows, but Saturday reality struck. I got up and was trying to catch a certian light angle. went out pulled the choke, push the throttle up and turned the key and she took off. yea, then died. crap. she started up and then would die. so clean the bowl and the shut of bowl also. had some stuff that go loose in the move. started and died. so i pulled the hose and turned the gas on nothing but a drip. so after 5 different stores and 3 hours later got a new sediment bowl on her. has i took the old on off i found a chunk of tank crud had got in the intake of the sediment bowl. well i am less than 5 mins from being done and the rain cut loose. so i hurried and got the hose and the air filter on while i took a nature shower. grabbed my tools and went in. Rain delay.

Well been busy at work the last few weeks, but got the deck off her and have been using it around the yard pull rusty tractors around. thaught my wife how to drive the tractor and now i think i lost it. I think the Cub bug might have bit my wife. she was driving this around on Sunday and said she really likes this little tractor. then she said the scarey comment. Said she might have fun going to the tractor shows if she had her own tractor. she wants one the girls will like and then she said it she wants it painted pink and white.

do i need to say more?

I grew up driving around a 71. Didn't have the original seat on it though. When my 1710 is done I have a feeling my wife will really like it, and I am sure she would like a pink one.....Nice tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
