Default Lawn mower??

Who makes a nice, good cutting walk behind mower? I have a sears (AYP) with a new blade and it cuts like sh*#! I need a bagger/mulcher for the front yard. I looked at a Toro but they are big bucks.

If I had to buy a new one I would get another just like what I have. A 22" poulan pro with some 3 or 5 HP briggs on it. Good little mower that came with a bagger system. I use it where the cub tractor can't go. I also leave it outside behind the garage uncovered for the past 4-5 years and it has never given me any complaints, fires right up and cuts nice. I think it was under 250 new with tax. It is not self propelled but has big rear wheels which makes it very easy to push.

You can spend a lot on a push mower or walk behind these days, and most are probably not built worth half of their asking price. Look at the reviews of the cub cadet CC 98M and you will see it's a real love/ hate affair of that walk behind.

I like to hand cut the front so it looks nice. the back is for the cub and deere. Everything looks like it a MTD or an AYP. Cut quality is the big thing.

I've been using the CC989 for the past 5 years. It's got the front swivel casters and Honda power. Mulch/bag/discharge. It's rear driven so it pulls up hills good. I like it. TSC model.

OK, I'm a country kid. We cut the grass to keep it down, not look good. Now I have a small lot and want it to look good. Why do some mowers cut nice and some not. They all have a deck and spin a blade. We had a flail and a brush hog on a 600 Ford, I get that. What makes a good push mower??

A lot of it is in the engine RPM and type of blade. Even though they are all just a single blade a lot of the wal-mart jobs and entry level Sears don't turn a fast enough RPM at the blade tip. I switched out to a gator blade about 3 years ago and it's just much more lift as well as slicing the clippings up 2-3X more.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
