Default Kohler Field Improvement Package??

So what is this field improvement package (from IH for the Kohler engine) that I see listed for sale on Cub Cadet Specialties website? It is a bunch of random looking parts with no description on what it is for. Just making sure it isn't an upgrade that I need to make sure I do.

Thanks,

The field improvement package was a kit offered for the narrow frames, wideframes, and quietlines (although quietlines had them most commonly) it had an upgraded muffler clamp, an air filter reinforcement, a plug wire clamp, and a heavier top baffle. Tractors with the plug wire clamp tend to have extremely messed up head studs.

Can you explain each part of it in more detail as to why the improvemtna are needed? I’m not following you 100%. Is this something I need to do to my 1450 since I’m restoring it ?

The plug wire clamp is basically self explanitory.
The muffler clamp just allows for better hold on the muffler.
The air filter reinforcement is really important, it keeps the 3 holes in the carb from vibrating and stripping out. I would definitely buy a reinforcment.
The top engine shroud basically allows for better cooling by letting more air through.

I feel like the air filter reinforcement and the top engine shroud are something you could make yourself. Is this the case, and if so have any of you done so? I was actually planning on making a new muffler box/shroud because the original is broken in places. Was going to go up a thicker gauge in material

Just food for thought:
while making something from heavier gauge makes sense in one hand,
The other hand, maybe not so much.
A heavier gauge weighs more, thus you are shaking a bigger mass, straining @ the mounting points.
Thinking:
just repair & reinforce the weak or mounting points areas of the original cooling box.
-----Just my thoughts.

Make a muffler crutch to go from the muffler mount to the motor, this'll keep the stud from breaking off, and also make an air filter reinforcement.

What does the air filter reinforcement look like? Does it support the air filter housing to relieve the moment (bending force) that the filter housing exerts on the carb? Anyone got a picture?

It looks like this, it goes on the inside of the air filter housing to prevent damage.

For this field improvement kit, I assume that there was was a service bulletin issued? As if there was some sort of problem with some tractors (models 800, 1000, 1250, 1450 and 1650). These Cub Cadet tractors all have different Kohler motors ranging from 8HP up 16HP. Am I correct? If so, what was the problem?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
