k-181 question
ok the lil engine puffs smoke alittle but shes been sittin for afew years i changed the oil, added fresh gas after old drained and tank washed, replaced breather filter and gaskets, pulled plug and added 2 oz of marvel mystery oil to let the rings soak,
as i was turnung the engine over by hand looking into the spark plug hole i couldnt see the piston moving at all... rtactor was rolling forward but is there something that would keep it from moving???? ran like a top when i cut it off |

If you can see a black piston moving in the dark thru a 5/16" hole, you are a better man than all of us..:biggrin2.gif:
Take a 1/4" wooden dowel about 6"+ long, and stand it up straight in the plug hole and it will (or should) move with the piston.......

I doubt that will work either, as the spark plug isn't over the piston on a K181 IIRC.

I beleive the plug is right over the exhaust valve... That's where it is on all of mine... It it will be over the deck itself

The spark doesn't have to "shoot" any direction... At the time of spark the chamber is full of fuel/air, the spark just has to "be".
Here is what Matt is talking about. |

I just look at my 70 and 800 motors.
The only thing I see is the top of the block in my 70 and the motor for my 800 (K181). Some of the 10, 12 and early 14 horse power motors had the spark plug over the piston. The heads don't interchange on a 7 or 8 horse power motor. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
