Impact driver and sockets
I just got this Craftsman manual impact driver. Could be some of the best 25 dollars I've ever spent.
The phillips screws holding the black foot treads to my wide frame fender were frozen and wouldn't budge. After an afternoon/eve soak in PB while I rode the motorcycle, 4 came out by hand and 4 were still locked. A few whacks with the impact wrench, and they all came right out without boogering any screw heads. The chuck also accepts 1/2" drive sockets. Will this impact wrench break a standard socket easily? I was checking out some impact grade sockets, and they're not cheap. I wasn't sure if they were meant more for air drivers. If so, does anyone know of any good deals on the sockets? I could use SAE and metric as well. All I keep thinking is, "why the heck did I not buy one of these many years ago?". Josh P

If you use Craftsman sockets they are warranted regardless. Impact sockets won't break, I would get a set of those.

Check out some impact sockets at harbor frt. They are cheap but I've had good luck with them.

I've never broken a 1/2" drive impact socket, even the cheap sets like harbor freight seem to hold up just fine. I'm sure it's possible but they are really beefy.

I found this set on sale from Northern Tool, and ordered it. Has 3/8 and 1/2" drive sets in SAE and metric. Seems to have a little wider range of sizes and about the best price I could find.

Yes, the sockets came in, and seem to be well made, and pretty much 2 sets in one. Haven't used them much yet, but liking them so far. I see they are still on sale for $64 plus shipping. For non commercial use, I think they are a great deal.
