Default The Beast Has Landed

Well its home.....and its super heavy. My Buddy came over and helped me move it into place. I have a few questions, I will list by picture, thanks for any help in advance.



ok, the pump head has no unloaders........the tube that connects on the right of this switch runs to one of the tubes that goes into the tank off the pump.....

see it all the way on right...


the other spot on it, is not connected to anything.....I assume this is a unloader, maybe with a check valve? Not sure HELP !!


Anyone know what any of this means?

I believe that is the pressure switch. Not sure of the open ended line, if not to pick up reference atmospheric pressure. The tag on the tank is from manufacturer of the tank certifying that it can withstand 150psi continuous, and 250 psi max temporary, as of 1945. I Wouldn't test that now!!!!!! Tank looks pretty bad from outside view, and who knows what it is like on inside. Remember, that compressed air holds water better than tupperware, so the inside of that tank has seen more water than you would think of since 1945.

This machine was in use until last year......the motor and pump were redone 6 years ago. There were 6 of them and belonged to the township where I live. They were used and drained on the regular. The guy I got it from took it home for his house, but since moved and did not have room for it. I actually pulled the drain out on the bottom and a little air cam out, and it was dry at least ! Yay! I can't believe how Heavy this tank is......


I figured out the piping on it, there is a check valve under the line into the tank and it goes to the pressure switch unloader. I want to get a new pressure switch with unloader and an on off switch.

great thing that it was dry! check out mscdirect.com or mcmaster.com or grainger.com for a pressure switch. anything pneumatic commercial you could find easily!

Do as you like, But I found a very good new pressure switch/unloader on evilpay for around 30.00 a few years back, was a name brand, Furnace I think.
check yours out, might just need some tinkering.

I am defiantly going to replace the pressure switch and new blow off valve. I just want to wire it up and make sure everything else works ok before I drop money on parts. It's like anything else previous owner says yeah it's perfect until you fire it up and it don't work haha.

If it were mine, I would have left the drain farther under the tank. I tend to get clumsy now and then and if you dropped something (hammer, your foot, knocked over at ladder, etc) and hit the drain, it will shear if off most likely at the tank nipple! I don't have a clue where you add the oil to that dinosaur! You probably ought to engineer some type of a filter for the port on top of the pump to keep dirt, bugs, and what not out of the compresssor. You look to be making good progress on it though!

from the pic looks like it is sticking out more than it is...... it tucked in pretty good actually. I have the same setup for a couple of years on my old compressor. works great, i put a towel under drain and if any moisture soaks it right up !

Default working !!!

Well after I put the new switch on, I added a 220 line in my garage and rewired the motor on the compressor to the new switch. It now works as expected and is very quiet. Holds air great with no leaks and drained a few times with no oil or moisture in the tank !!!!
