Default Anyone familiar with this engine?

Just had this given to me. I am told it was on a reel mower. Looks to be small. Maybe 3 HP but less than 5 I would think. No markings on it that I can see.

NOTE: Admin straighten Pics.

I think you might be correct on the B&S. Just found this Toro with B&S 2HP. Engine looks the same.

Looks like a model 5S or 6S Briggs going by the picture of the fuel tank and carb. Darn good little engines, probably less than 3hp. Also don't recall Clinton having the flip up oil cap.

I agree with John, looks like a Briggs 6s or 5s. I have two 6s engines: a 1954 model on my Planet JR super tuffy walk behind tractor, and a 1949 model my buddy found out in the woods that is non running. It looks like yours is missing the shroud piece that goes around the back of the cylinder, that's where the model and serial number tag would be. Not sure if there is another way to know the model for sure.

It's for sure a Briggs and Stratton.... I doubt it was over 2hp.. it's old but still really cool!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
