Well the guy made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The seller dropped the price on the Miller Maxtron 300 from $800 to $500. I offered $400 and he took it. The unit looks to be in good shape. It turns on and sounds good. He ran a short bead to show me it works, but it burned through the 20ga metal he used as a test piece. There was no shielding gas to test with and no mask. I'll have to wait until I get some gas to give it a thorough test run. Said his dad bought it new and used it mostly to weld aluminum. The guy said he was selling it because it was just too much welder for his needs. I think maybe he couldn't afford to buy a wire feeder and found the spoolgun to be too inconvenient for his needs (automotive). He's looking for a smaller mig unit. At $400 for the unit, I feel like I got a great deal. I'll just have to add accessories as I go, such as the wire feed and gun, stick leads, and eventually a TIG gun. It's going to be a great addition to my shop.
I also picked up a Victor Journeyman II torch kit, complete, in new condition, for $175 this weekend. I think I did pretty well. Finally getting my workshop outfitted again. Won't be long before I can start on that 1650. |

A couple pics of my recent acquisition.
Miller Maxtron 300 inverter power source, Miller Spoolmate 3 spoolgun, 28' leads, Victor flow meter, sturdy (if ugly) cart, all for a grand total of $400. I think I did ok.

Thenrie,
How close are you to the Richmond area? The guys who recommend a Miller are right on the money for my 2 cents worth. I paid way to much for a Millermatic 210 about five years ago ( absolutely love the thing) and have seen them going for 6 to 8 bills around Richmond several times in the last couple of months. Thats a really good price for a very versatile unit. Check out the Richmond C/L sometime. Cowen |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
