Got the 124 runnin after sitting 15 years!!
Finally got the 124 runnin today after it was neglected for at least 15 years. Here's a link of a vid I made of the 124 running and some other stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT85R5D3Dgo
Here's a couple pics too, enjoy!! Feels so good to get the 124 up and running, now I can focus on refurbing it, do still need to fix clutch issue, but after that I think I'm in the clear |

Duke, It's in pretty good shape, pretty straight. Has some serious rust issues though, muffler was rotted out and pto is looking rough. Battery hold down was disintegrated almost completely, implement lift stop is rotted out too. The teaser spring is broken in the clutch, what else if anything is wrong I won't know till I get it out and look at it. Thanks Bud Allen, thanks for the compliments and give me a call tomorrow evening |

Jude,
I like watching your vids.Good to see how others work on their cubs and the conditions they work in.Amazing how these things run after so long sleeping... And for everyone, always watch for loose clothing around running motors.

Great vid, Jude!!!
Looking forward to seeing the progress on the 124. I'm going to have to completely rebuild the driveline on my 1200, so I hope to learn a lot from your resto. I have the same charger. I always try to have that thing hooked to something whenever I'm in the garage. It works great. Please post more videos whenever you are able. They definitely help to keep me motivated on my myriad of projects. Thanks! S |

Thats what its all about
Bringing them back to life is a big part of this hobby. A few years ago I picked up a model Original I found in western Ohio that was under a collapsed chicken coop. The tires had actually rotted off the rims. I hocked up a jump wire, checked the oil, removed the oil bath air cleaner and shot some starting fluid in it. Started right up Out of over 200+ CC's that I have owned I have had only a handful (6 or7)that wouldn't run (broken rods, missing parts). Cub Cadet forever

Lew, thanks to you also!! You're so right about loose clothing and moving parts I'm mindful as to what I wear in the shop for that reason, no hoodies with strings, no open jackets, etc. Jeff, thanks Buddy Steve, I'm looking forward to the restore now too! Was wandering if it was going to be worth it, now that she runs so nice it's definitely worth it. I really appreciate the compliment on the video That gives me more motivation to work on the cubs, so it's reciprical!! I'm totally diggin the charger, best one I've ever owned and now I feel alot safer too. I'll try to do several vid's on the 124, guess I'll start tearing it down tonight. Mlamar, couldn't agree with ya more! The 124 was going to end up in a scrap yard but I couldn't let that happen. I thought if it was to far gone I could at least have it for parts. Out of the 6 cubs I have(at the moment) only 2 weren't running, the 124 and 147. Now both are running good I'm loving the old iron |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
