I'm loving this "we" stuff. My oldest son and I rebuilt (and customized a bit) an old '54 Willys Jeep during his high school years. It was suppose to be a clean-it-up-and-get-it-running job over about two weeks, so he could use it as his school car. We ended up taking two years. He drove it to school his last two days before graduation! We were both very proud of the end result and both look back on it fondly. Now my last at home is a 15yo daughter. I will retire in March, so I can spend more time doing "we" stuff with her, before it's too late.

Maybe we'll finish up my 1650 together!

Maybe I need AG's or chains, or taller tires!!!??
He is putting a 14hp vtwin in it, it's in his first post. Can't wait to see it complete

We have a rebuilt 14hp Vanguard Vtwin that will be installed shortly. I would suspect that the belt drive would slip long before the clutch, but we're not going to know until we really stress the tractor. I figure that I would rather mess with belts and pulleys rather than burning up the little clutch, hence the heavier spring choice. I'm no expert - it's just the path we've chosen.

I've also considered fabricating another drive shaft that would tension the clutch spring using a nut on threads so we could vary the pressure, or use another spring pin hole a little further back, or spacers, you catch my drift? That would make it somewhat adjustable to get the right balance...

We acquired the wheel weights from a parts tractor that we recently purchased. Likely made by a farmer in his shop to get the job done. They are 70 lbs each and fit just inside the raised portion of the rim webbing. A real find and we think they look really neat - almost like planetary hubs!

Today I built the drive pulley for our 14hp Vtwin. I was looking around the shop for a pulley that I could use and found a double vee pulley from an Original mower deck - perfect. It actually provides for two different drive ratios if I flip it over and bolt it on the opposite way. One ratio is pretty much stock and the other would be like having a creeper...well maybe a slightly faster creeper. Anyhow, I used the SHCS's from the original hydrostatic drive shaft that was on the Vtwin and countersunk them into the pulley for a clean look. Then I snipped a few of the plastic rings off of the fan guard to fit snug around the pulley. Looks pretty stock. Now it just needs blasting and painting......federal yellow I think, that will pop!

I have to throw out this jab.... Happy Hab fan!! ???

Yeah I know...As far as a fan of hockey...I couldn't really care which team it is...I only cheer for the Senators because the boss at work will take me and the wife to two or three games in a year....Heck it could be the Smurf's playing hockey - I don't care. I just like the night out to watch a game RIGHT THERE instead of tv! But I honestly have to say...never seen a stadium ROCK when the Habs visit Ottawa...WOW! Those Hab's fans are CRAZY!!

Looking forward to the O' restoration...Look'n good so far! Also nice to see a fellow Ontarioan here... I think we are a minority here. I think there is 4 or 5 of us here on the forum. Nice to see the Cubs are in Ontario...Kick'n the JD @$$ to the curb! Glad to see you and your son are enjoying Cub Time! Wish my son was into it as much as me....he has WOMEN on his mind!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
