Thanks for that image, it was helpful. According to the diagram I have, the brown wire from the PTO goes to the seat switch, not reverse switch?

Am I correct in that the Neutral Indicator is in the gauge cluster? I may have to tap into that cluster....

My bad. You are correct. Getting tired and didn't follow the brown wire correctly.

The "neutral indicator" according to the Wiring Diagram and Parts Listing is a Micro Switch (SPDT) device under the dash the touches the Shift Lever.

Really struggling to get anything to happen. I believe I have everything wired. The only thing in question is what seat switch to tap into. There are two black wires into a harness. I am not sure if this is required but I am wondering if somethings missing.

Still working at it. I have to jump it with the key in the on position and once it does the engine runs well. The drive belt seems a little loose, as does the brake/clutch but it goes. Maybe I can sell it as is to someone more electrically inclined. Dont need a lot to get my investment back but would love to get her running with the key to start it and PTO working to get some extra.

I am looking into it. Seems there is some "conflicting" information and I am trying to narrow it down. Stay tuned.

OK.....as best as I can see, I think I have straightened this situation out. The Seat Switch (725-3093) is NLA from Cub Cadet. The Cub Cadet wiring Diagram has mislabeled the Seat Switch function. It is "NO" (normally open) as opposed to NC (normally closed).

IF........functioning correctly, one has to be in the seat for the PTO to work. If one leaves the seat, the PTO will stop.

I do not own a 1715 thus all my research is done with Cub Cadet material at hand. If someone has some further or better information, please chime in.

I really appreciate your efforts in trying to assist with this. That wire harness that is "in the seat" is present but there is nothing to connect to it other than taping a wire from the PTO "I" terminal directly into one of the two wires at the seat. Not 100% sure which one is the proper one from PTO but it is hard to tell from the diagram. However, the other wire has to be connected to something as well. I wish there was a parts 1715 locally that I can look for an pull harnesses out of.

I have little experience with wiring other than car stereos from my younger days but I kind of get it. The challenge is identifying the proper terminals for the neutral switch, PTO and harnessed wires to determine where to tap into.

I don't want to jump into the middle of this adventure, but simply starting the motor with the key switch would take a key switch that is not defective and a starter solenoid that is not defective and I don't see any posts saying that they have been tested and ruled out as not being the problem.

It sounds like to me, there more than one electrical issue he is trying to tackle.

Thanks again. You are right that it would be wise to check the switch and starter solenoid to see if they are functioning correct. My thought was that there is no way they would work if they are not connected to anything. First step was to wire everything as it should be to determine where to go next. The wiring has to be in place with a new switch and solenoid to function so if by chance they were in working order, this would be my first step.

Once I can verify I have this wired up correctly, next is to find the faulty link.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
