Default 1782

I bought this tractor almost 10 years ago. It came with a 54” deck and mowed like a dream. About 5 years ago it just stopped in the middle of mowing the front yard. No indication that it was even getting and juice from the battery. I fiddled with it for a bit but could figure out what was going on. I then got side tract working on restoring a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 and the Cub got pushed to the back of the shop. Well I finally decided to start trying to see if I can get it going again.

Good luck. Hopefully it's something simple.

(of your Mach 1)

Maybe you could post some pics of the car in the General topic section.

Default Broken plastic

Has anyone had any luck with plastic welding? If so, any tips?

You will have much better results with a quality epoxy than with a plastic welder. Sand the area with 150 grit and v out the cracks and then clean it good with rubbing alcohol before applying the epoxy.

Do what you want, but I have decided to just start buying new. In the grand scheme of things, a guy spends more time screwing around trying to fix this crap then sitting on pins and needles hoping it will last another day. Considering what a new machine costs, I have deduced one can spend some money to have a nice looking, good running machine that is way better and still save lots of money. But then again I'm not just mowing, and I love hydraulics

If that's the grill, do yourself a favor and order a new one. I replaced one on a 2284 last summer. The old one was literally shattered and fell into a gazillion pcs when I removed it. You might band aid it for a while, but what are you going to do when it breaks again and the price for a new one has gotten higher or the part is NLA?

FWIW, I had to trim some flashing to get the new grill and old hood to play together without snagging and popping.

I have a nos so no matter how it works out I will have a back up. I was just thinking sooner or later someone will have to figure a way to rescue pieces if possible. All that said I have a plastic welder that I got from a friend. I have no experience with it and he is no longer with me to give tips. I’m going to try it but I was hoping for some advice on best method.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
