Default LTX-1045 heat shield

Hello guys
I bought a Cub Cadet LTX-1045 with a Kohler SV-590-3230 with 145 hours. I think it is a 2012 model and the guy did zero maintenance. I have had a 2 week crash course in the Kohler courage engines.

I have it running decent but have ordered a new carburetor for it. All of the parts diagrams I look at I notice a heat shield between the carb and head but my mower does not have this. Did some models come without the heat shield?

Thanks for the help

If a part is shown in the parts book, unless it states otherwise, then all the engines will have it.

If you have it running decent, and it only has 145 hours on it, why on God's green earth would it need a new carburetor? Carbs are not "exchange" parts. In other words, if it isn't working right, you fix them, not replace them. One of my tractors has 2100+ hours on it. The carb has almost 1000 on it and it's just fine. Wasting your money bud.

From the sounds of it "runs decent" means you think it could run better. Chances are if your carb makes it run decent you could clean and tune the carb to make it run better rather than spending the money on a new one. I would at least try that first.

Thanks guys. The mower runs good wide open but hates to idle. It governor bumps really bad, if I increase the idle screw enough it smooths out but it back fires a good bit under half throttle. The carb on my mower has fixed jets and it kinda simple. When I bought the mower it had the original air filter that was mostly gone and the pre filter was missing. I have used Evinrude engine tuner along with sea foam and a few other cleaners and while it gets better it still likes wide open throttle the best. I dont idle it more than to warm it up though

One issue is I thank the guy was going to clean the carb before he sold it and the fuel bowl has tool marks all over it and is out of round so it leaks gas. It is like he tried screwing it off without removing the after fire solenoid. I did buy a new carb along with the missing heat shield so I am just waiting for that to arrive. It was not that much more expensive buying a Kohler carb than trying to rebuild this one. I never understood while people dont maintain stuff they buy??

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
