New from NC
Hi all, I also am not a stranger to cubs, the first one I ever used was back in 76-77 it was my uncles 1650 as far as i can remember. I just remember it being huge back then considering I used to do all the mowing on my grandfathers 3 speed continental (does anyone remember those cast iron hooded things?) and the cub was a cadillac compared to that. We lived very close to my uncle and I would always come over on Saturdays just to mow his huge yard.
But the real reason I mowed that yard was because you could get out of sight of the house go forward full speed and pull that middle mounted chrome lever back towards you to full reverse in an 8 or 9 year olds sharp jerking motion and viola, dirt and grass flying all over the place and almost pull it into a 180. Needless to say the first time he caught me doing that I was snatched off the tractor so fast I swear I heard vertebrea cracking. He explained that that was not good for the hydraulics and if he caught me doing it again I would owe him my allowance for the next 30 years. I mowed with it for several years until my Dad bought the 1282 in 84 or 5, he gave it to me in 91 and Ive kept it ever since. Now Ive had my share of nice lawn mowers and because we had alot of land really didnt use the cub much, you cant really compare it to a john deere x585 (boo/hiss), now you guys know those are really good lawn tractors lets be fair. Now since weve moved from the country into the city all the other big mowers have fallen by the wayside, you just dont need a 60" deck for 1/2 an acre although the ole cub will knock a half acre out fairly quick. The 1282 in my avatar pic is all original except the seat of course but it is much more comfy than the original, the engine was rebuilt about 5 yrs ago and the cub has about 1180 hrs on it and it still runs like it did when it was new, but I do change the oil AND hydraulic fluid and filter every season, overkill?... yeah but im still riding it 25 yrs later. Thanks so much for this great site, its people like you who create a wealth of information for anyone of almost any special interest. Jeff |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
