Default 107 and 1250 Questions

New member, first post so please let me know if I need to move this post.

My FIL is moving to town and is no longer in need of two of his cub cadets. I was hoping to get an idea of what he should be able to sell them for.

He bought both of them new at the IH dealer he recently retired from and they have been well maintained. Both run and operate like new.

Both of them include the decks but I'm not sure on the sizes. The 107 also has a tiller attachment. The 1250 was upgraded to the 14hp Kohler

Any insights would be much appreciated.

If they're as good as they look. He should get top dollar. Whatever that is.

That 107 is the nicest original unit I've ever seen tiller and deck look just as nice. They should command a good price.

Those are some very nice looking cub cadets in excellent original condition.
These are just my estimates for your items from what I see in your pictures. There are many factors that affect the value of an item, like condition, location (some places it is harder to find cubs than others, like PA or my Uncle Lewy's, where they seem to be quite common), rarity of item, usefulness of item, what options it has (like headlights, tail lights, hydraulic lift), etc. I don't see many cubs pictured from the Nebraska area, so if they are scarce there, that might raise the prices a little. Ultimately, it comes down to whatever someone is willing to pay for an item and what someone is willing to sell it for. Get estimates from several people and average them out, leave some room for negotiation as the items are 40+ years old.

First, I would pull the hubcaps off of the 107 and polish them up with a non-abrasive polish. A full set (2 front and 2 back) of those IH hubcaps has brought as much as $700 several years ago. I saw a set of them on Ebay go for around that and my cousin sold a set off of my uncle's cub for around that. I do not know what they are going for nowadays, but should be close to that if they are not rusted or dented. Looks like both cubs have 40 something inch decks, but I am not for sure. A careful examination of the ID tags on them should tell you. The tiller with the gearbox and belt should bring around $200-$350, it is missing the belt guard for the top of the tiller.
The 107 with deck, if that is original condition, I would value around $450-$800. The 1250 with deck, again if that is original condition, I would value around the same amount, around $450-$800.

If the 107 has the tiller attached to it, then it has to have the narrow frame 3 point hitch system installed on it. You could take that option off and that set of parts would bring $75-$125. If it also had a white spring on the back that goes to the rockshaft, then that would be an option called a narrow frame helper spring and that should bring $60-$100. Upload a picture of the 107, just below the driver's side fender looking from the back end of the tractor and we can quickly see if it has the spring assist or not, if you need further help identifying it.

BEFORE SELLING ANYTHING: Personally, I would check with your FIL and see if any of his children or grandchildren would want them. One of the mistakes that happens is that someone sells something off and years later, a relative wishes that they had kept it and passed it on to a family member because there are certain memories attached to it. I know this from personal experience. My dad had a 106 that he used to pull my siblings and I behind in a wagon. I searched for years to get that back, but the trail has run cold and I doubt that I will ever come across it.

Well, don't be a stranger here. We are a friendly group of fellas who recognize and appreciate a quality piece of equipment when we see it, so we have an affinity for these machines.

Default Prices on your FIL cubs

In southern Iowa they would be worth about $400 for the 1250 and deck and $500 to $650 for the 107 with deck and tiller. Just my opinion. Good luck. Carpetbagger

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
