Question 149 hydraulic lift issue

Good afternoon all I am new to this forum along with a new owner of a cub cadet 149. When I bought the machine over the summer I had to rebuild the engine. But when I got it the hydraulic lift would lift the plow that was on it. Since then I put a snowblower attachment on it and it will not lift it. I checked the fluid and had to put 2qts in it and still will not lift the snowblower. I adjusted the stop and still nothing. Any ideas on what the issue might be.

Thanks in advance

I suggest posting a photo of the blower, hooked up so people can see that the linkage isn't a problem.
Other than that, it sounds like it just can't lift the weight. If so, the most obvious cause to me would be a worn lift cylinder allowing bypass. But I suppose the could be many other possible issues.
Good luck!
Andy

Since the tractor moves OK, then it has to be in the "lift circuit". That would consist of the Control Valve, Cylinder, piping, and/or Control Lever linkages.

I'm going to piggyback on this topic since it could be relevant. I have a 30" lift rod that works perfectly on my 1811 with my plow, but the rod is too long for my QA42 snow thrower. When the lift is all the way up and the plow is on the ground the rod just fits. Is there a shorter standard size rod? Should I fabricate one? I was thinking rebar and a torch.

Yes make one, it has to be shorter.

Don't use rebar. Go to Lowes or HD and buy a piece of 1/2 inch steel rod. Propane torch will work, Mapp gas better, OxyAcet best.

I'd suggest finding a local steel supplier. You can get metal stock for like 1/10th the cost of hardware store.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
