This is what the clutch looked like. I am going with the idea that the side of the field shouldn't be lifted up like that? Also those bits and pieces where it is breaking up don't look like they will be "healing" up anytime soon either?

Here is the result of your test Oak. Nothing. Couldn't get a read off it at all. Even shinned up the plate to make sure I was getting a good connection. Laying the probe on it or just using the point. Same result - nothing.

Sooooo....

I think I am going to get a different clutch from the dealer tomorrow???

Thoughts?

I was going to strip the one off the 782, but thought why would I do that and have TWO tractors to put back together?

Anyone want to have a beer with me tonight since I won't be moving snow?

Looks like you got all the goodness out of that one. You'd think they would have built them to last longer than 40 years. You should see if it's covered under warranty.

Mike, make sure your meter goes to 0 if you touch the red & black leads of the meter together just to make sure your meter is working. If it does make sure that the wire that goes into the clutch isn't broken causing your reading. If all that is good then the clutch is now a paper weight.

Actually, the 2072 is 917-3043. The field coil is the same but the rotor and armature are different. The 2072 and early 2082 had a 1.25" crankshaft. 17's and 18's had a 1.125" shaft. Late 2082's went to the 1.125" shaft.

Mike measure your shaft to be sure. I just checked a medium flat rate box to Canada is $46!

Send me a message with your address if your interested and I will check to see if I can do it cheaper.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
