Default simplicity ? I know it's not a cub. but need help

My neighbor brought over his 2014 ish simplicity prestige, when trying to engage the mower deck it kills the engine. It has a reverse key that you have to turn to mow backwards and if you turn that and then the pto it will work, he says that he never had to do that before. just hoping someone has seen this before I start buying parts.

thanks Dan

If turning the key to mow in reverse does not kill the engine then it sounds like turning the key bypasses a switch on your hydro reverse pedal. I would start there by checking for a stuck reverse pedal switch or wiring issue.

Sounds like your the "neighborhood mechanic" if thats the case i would think you already have an idea that the issue is likely electrical. Get on a simplicity site, get the wiring schematics and get your meter out.

thanks for the replies! "neighborhood mechanic" is about right! I try to do what I can for my neighbors but it always seems to happen when I have a lot going on! so I was hoping for the " my neighbor had the same problem and this was it" answer!! But we all know that never happens, so out comes the meter. thanks again!

darkminion thanks for the link!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
