I'm happy with what I've paid for my two 2182's and my 1782 compared to what they sold for back in the day. I'm guessing Lew is starting to like his new to him 2284 a lot better now.

Paul, they were reffering to the axle tubes not the diff housing.

Edit: this is what happens when drinking and reading only the first page of a 3 page post from months ago!!

The list did not include the 682 which, according to wikia http:// http://tractors.wikia.com/wi..._Cub_Cadet_682, sold for about $3295 which according to an online calculator is $8, 606.62.

Today a john deer x500 might come close and sells for about $6K and has a differential lock.

The diff lock would be nice. I expect the 2k difference is due to lower manufacturing costs.

wasn't sure if anyone would be interested or not, and if there was an archive of things like this, but here is a sales receipt I came across for a new 2072 sold in 1990

Default Cast iron to Aluminum

I know this thread is a little old, but Just reading through it I can give a little input.

I have a both 1974 1650 and a 1978 1450.
interestingly enough I have noticed :
1650 ('74) Front grille frame is Cast iron lower, ( hood nose is cast aluminum
Complete rear end and (axle tubes are cast iron)
1450 ('78) lower grille frame cast aluminum ( hood nose same as 1650)
Rear end is cast iron with Aluminum axle tubes. also the is more clearance between the fender stamping and the frame.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
