Just rip the wiring off. It really doesn't matter how it's wired currently.

Yes, you need a different coil. That isn't the right one.

Picture of the cam follower, and Mike Lamar's wiring harness for the Original. Do as Jon suggested. Pull the wiring harness, and start fresh. Everything is clearly labeled. MUCH EASIER...

Thanks! Does Mike have a website or do I order through the forum?

I took your advice. Ordered a coil and PM'd Mike about a harness. Ripped my wiring out but kept it intact just in case.

I tried my pullers on the front pulley with no luck... does the metal bar that goes into the slot on the shaft have to come out somehow first?

How about the rear pulley? I cant keep the motor from rotating enough to get the bolt loosened.

Boogered up something today... trying to pull the steering wheel I dug too hard into the threads on the top of the steering shaft.

Do you think i can rethread this or is it time to look for a new steering shaft?

Other than that it's coming along. Going to take the wheels off and go from there tomorrow or Tuesday depending on work.

Finally. Good deal.

No, you do not have to take the key out first. Clean up the shaft with some emry cloth, and a wire brush. You do have to loosen up or remove the set screws first... I remove them and spray Kroil in the holes. May need some heat on the center of the pulley. You need the puller from Jeff.

Why do you need to take it off? Paint?
IMPACT GUN. Go get one.

Oh, you can probably run a die down it and fix it. But you need to put a nut on while pulling the wheel until it comes loose. You are going to have to do something before you pull the wheel though because you swelled the end of the shaft now.

I tried heat on the center of the pulley, maybe not long enough though... I'll try again and do you happen to have a picture of the puller? I was using a matco 6 inch hub puller I borrowed from my dad.

I did get the wheel off. The shaft isnt so expanded that it wouldn't come off, but expanded enough to not thread the top nut on.

I need to take a picture of my starter... I'm not convinced it's the right model because of the way its attached to the mount. Looks like the guy used washers as spacers to make it for correctly. I'll take a pic tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the help again. I have the steering system completely out of the tractor... I noticed some odd things but I'll get pics before trying to discuss/ask.

You are making some great progress. Keep it up and keep us posted with pics! Looks good.

It's really nice to see someone ask for advice, apply it, and then give feedback. Too often it gets frustrating for a lot of guys to hand out advice and then never hear back from the OP.

Good work my friend. Again, keep us posted! I'm sure it's going to look great when she is done.

Thank you! J-Mech, Zippy1, and others have been really helpful. I'd have been lost without some of their advice.

I hope to get more work done on it this week!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
