Opinions appreciated
Found a 1650 on Craigslist. Add says it had an electrical problem but has sat for five years. No attachments, no side panels. Text the owner, it was in a lot with three other tractors. Claims he know nothing more about it. Asking $425. Told him that was too much to pay for a non running tractor with no attachments. He dropped the price to $375. This conversation has been just texting, I have not talked to him. Obviously I need to look at it, just wondered what you all thought.

Just my opinion, but $375 is still far too much with the provided information. If he could guarantee it was only an electrical issue, I might go to $250. That's assuming you still have to do several things to clean it up. I think you can find a much better deal out there if you don't mind waiting for it.

Can you say "money pit"??.
First off You'll spend around $70+ for a new seat before you'll even want to sit on it.. I sure would not want to sit in that waterlogged petrified vinyl butt pinch bucket. Even at $200, you will soon have his initial asking price and more invested. Ya gotta LOVE those QL's before you jump into one. |

I'd let it sit for anymore than $150.

Battery $50
Seat $75-100 Missing side panels $???? Messed up fuel system from sitting 5 years $???? Typical wear on a 40 year old lawn mower $????? Unknown electrical $???? Be honest, tell him what you could easily drop into it, offer him a very low price, if he doesn't take it walk away politely, no harm no foul.

Bllwnkl...I love Quietlines as everyone knows. I looked at that clunker on C-list too and I would not buy that pos! You want a running 1650...I have them but you need to look at them first.

I'd like to find another hydro tractor to put the blade on so I can keep my 1250 for mowing. I've done a lot of work on the 1250 so I'm kind of familiar with that series.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
