Default IH 60 new owner

I purchased a 60 last weekend. I saw it and had to have it. It appears to need a drive chain, key, and battery. I ordered a new key and will purchase a battery soon. I have been looking for a new drive chain and it seems that it is no longer sold. Does anyone know the length or how many links it is? I purchased the 60 and the IH dump cart together.

Default Model 60

TSM: the chain is 73 links of IH 475 879 R91 chain plus a connecting link as stated in Section A, page 13, #14, of the TC-120 parts manual.

For the Model 60 you WILL NEED:

Operators Manual, IH Pub 1083 251 R1 (this has the Lubrication Guide!)
Service Manual, IH GSS-1389 International Cadet Riding Mower
Parts Manual, IH TC-120 Cadet Riding Mowers and Equipment

All three are needed because each has basic information NOT found in the others!! They can be ordered from www.binderbooks.com

I just got off of live chat with Cub Cadet they no longer sell it. This is the reply they gave me. The chain is part number: IH-488004-R1.
We apologize, but the part is no longer available to purchase from our company. We would recommend performing an internet search to determine if this part may be available to purchase through an independent supplier.

Thanks for all the help so far. I will be purchasing all three manual for future references.

Default Model 60 Drive Chain

Be sure you ask potential suppliers about the availability of IH Chain 475 879 R91. This was a large roll of the correct chain that dealers kept in stock, generally for shop use, and would simply take 73 links off of it and add a connecting link (if needed) Apparently this chain was also used for other IH purposes as well. There are two different connecting link stock numbers shown in the TC-120 parts manual, but either will likely work (oft times a later stock number just meant a different supplier to IH). That 488 004 R1 is simply a Dealer parts counter package, for the do-it-yourselfer, containing 73 links of the above chain # and a connecting link.

Default IH Trailer (dump cart)

Heretofore unmentioned: You called it a "dump cart" but that is an IH #2 Trailer which was likely purchased with the Model 60. Apparently it didn't spend its life in the garage with the Model 60. But clean it up and paint it with the proper IH 902 White Cap White. Available as Navistar 0902, PPG 90592, MS 99L-10649, or Ditzler 8615. Then you will have a matched pair of collectibles.

FYI: The Model 60 is the only yellow RER. It is also the only one to have two pedals. One for Forward and one for Reverse. The Model 60 transmission does NOT have a reverse gear. Reverse is accomplished by a belt pulley on an external extension of the camshaft. Take care of that engine ! It's the only one I know of with that feature and they don't make'em anymore. Husqvarna now owns whatever is left of the old Tecumseh. Later RER's are white and have only one pedal with a reverse gear in the transmission. The IH Model 60 is a unique beastie and very, very collectible.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
