Hey just thought I'd make a comment on this thread given what has happened in the last day or two with the truck. I have just been driving around my county with it. Not that I was scared to go anywhere.... just hadn't had anywhere to go. I had noticed it seemed like it was burning a lot of fuel. Didn't think too much of it, as it had sat so long, old fuel and such. I'd only put fuel in it once since I got it running. Well, I had to run down to a town about 30 miles or so away on Sunday in it, and it seemed like I went through a lot of fuel. Then Monday, I went on about a 90 mile run, and burned nearly half a tank between the two trips. Now..... that's excessive, even for this truck. Thought about it today, and thought, you know, I don't remember feeling the converter clutch kick in. Seems the truck is awfully loud too, like it's running faster than normal. I bet the converter isn't locking up. Now, on basically all vehicles, the brake switch is a multi function switch. I doesn't just turn on your brake lights. It has more functions. One of which is to signal that the brakes are applied so that the PCM knows to unlock the converter clutch (cc for short). Hooked up the scanner, and sure enough, the brake switch showed the pedal was pushed on the scanner. It's a separate part of the switch, so the brake lights work fine. Changed out the $15 switch, and now the cc locks as it should. That should fix my mileage issue. Oh.... my door handle broke today too. Fixed that as well. Actuator rod came off for some unknown reason. Nothing broke.... just came off. While it had it apart, I put in a new lock cylinder for the door. I didn't get a door key with the truck, so I couldn't lock it up. Now I can. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
