Dljtruck: Welcome and congratulations on the Model 60. They are collector's items. SERMON: You cannot maintain, repair or restore a 40 year old machine without the Manuals!!
1) Model 60 Operator's Manual: IH Publication 1 083 251 R1 2) Model 60 Service Manual : IH Blue Ribbon Service Manual (BRSM) GSS-1389 3) Model 60 Parts Manual : IH TC-120, Section A These should be available from Binder Books. Support the Forum sponsors! Click on their pretty colored button at the top of the page and get'em ordered. End of Sermon! The transmission on the Model 60 does NOT have a reverse gear. Reverse is a separate pedal operated belt off the Camshaft extension pulley on this model only!! Forward drive belt is: IH-487994-R1 (1/2" x 37" Lawn & Garden Belt) Reverse drive Belt is: IH-487996-R1 (11/2 x 35" Lawn & Garden Belt) Note: I did not specify a Lawn & garden belt without reason!! The diagrams from the Operator's Manual (see above!!) follows. (email for a Hi-Res version)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
