Default 1211 fuel pump

I believe the fuel pump on my 1211 has gone south. I see cub wants an arm & a leg for theirs. Has anyone had good luck with the aftermarket pumps? If so, can you give the website where you got it?

Thanks
Jeff

I replaced the fuel pump on the 1211 but it doesn't pump gas. If you pump it by hand it pumps gas but mounted to the engine it doesn't. Could the pump follower in the engine quit spinning?

Thanks
Jeff

Is there a place to download the Kohler manual TP-2203-A?

The 1211 came with a Kohler M12 471512 engine. Basically the same as the K Series except Magneto Ignition.

IIRC, there is a cam that the Fuel Pump Lever rides against to produce the pumping. I suppose it is possible the cam wore. I would think the lever being the softer of the two metals, the cam would win that battle. You can stick some metal rod in the Fuel Pump mounting hole, and see if the rod moves up/down as you rotate the engine by hand to verify.

You can always go to an Electric Fuel Pump also.

Thanks for the reply Roland. Is there a specific electric fuel pump? Will try the rod to see if it moves.

The Fuel Pump diagram is on page 6A.3 of the Service Manual.

Thanks again Roland. I think I will go the electric fuel pump route. That looks like the one I put on my JD322.

That happened to me sometime back. I wound up taking the old and new pump apart, used the pump arm off the old pump and put it back together. It worked.

First, does your old pump, pump fuel when removed from the engine like the new one?
Next, IIRR the Camshaft has an eccentric lobe that actuates the fuel pump.
The pump has to be installed properly so the cam lobe can do that.
if it is placed wrong, the cam cannot move the pumping lever.
This old man cannot remember if the lever goes on top or under the cam.
but a little investigation on your part should reveal the proper way it goes as there will be a wear mark on the old pump where it had been working in the past.
Now lets not get all excited about an 'lectric fuel pump when the mechanical
one will do it's job once the problems are sorted out.
It is rare that a hardened cam lobe plum wears out like the old ford flatheads did in pre '53 days

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
