Sam, does my 1811 PTO have two bearings. If so I assume I will have to disassemble it to get to both bearings.

Thanks, Sam I will take care of all of those things while I'm in there. I got a little sidetracked building workbenches and storage spaces in the garage, should be refocusing in the tractor in a few days once I get the workspace tidy again.

1811 should just have one PTO bearing. It's what allows the pulley to not spin while the engine is running and PTO isn't engaged.

I found some oil in the air cleaner housing, but at the same time I found that the filter was old and impacted with dirt to where light would not pass through.
Is it a safe bet that the clogged filter was drawing some oil through the vent? I've got a new filter and am doing a full service on the engine today.
I might even snap a picture.

Went to work on the 1863 yesterday, brake rod was not bent, just sloppy. I didn't know that brakes used a different arrangement than the supers. After adjusting the brakes, I was able to adjust the arm that actuated the switch so it no longer rubs on the driveshaft.

More loose bolts, and the 2 at the front-right of the transaxle were just plain gone; I hope the holes/threads aren't damaged.

Since I had the wheels off I decided to clean them up and get the dried out mud out of the tire treads...as soon as that "mud" got wet..that's not mud. Bleah.

Since the weather is warmish I'm going to roll her out and take the hose to the frame rails and get all the actual mud and hay out of there, there's so much crud up in there water and a spray nozzle seems like to most efficient answer. I have to pull the driveshaft and service the joints, then service the deck and front axle as needed and we'll be ready for the mowing season. I'm itching to get back to work on the 1872.

If the those threads are missing which hold the bolts, you should consider a set of these:

http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Part...Cub-Cadet.html

You will never regret putting them on if you are keeping the machine.

Good luck with the 1863! I mowed a lot of lawn with my dads while I was growing up.

Bolt holes were fine, I guess the bolts just rattled themselves out. I mowed some leaves to give it a shakedown and everything works as it should.

I haven't determined what I'm going to do with this one long-term, it'll probably be converted to a super on the 1882 chassis once the 1872 is mowing, so the braces wouldn't be a wise investment before then.

It's a new season!

Got the 1863 out and decided to mow what's left of the fall leaves, then decided to pull the deck to do a full maintenance on it (and maybe some paint), found that the hanging bracket had taken a hard hit and was pretty twisted.

This poor thing was abused. Going to work it in the shop press to see if I can get it right again...

Did you ever find the screaming noise?

My SIL has my 1861,, and he mows weekly in the summer,,
I ALWAYS know when he is mowing,,
I can hear the hydro scream when he goes up the steep grade behind their house,,
They are over 1/4 mile away,, if I am outside,, I can hear it,, even at that distance,,

My 1864 did that when I first got it. Fluid and filter change fixed it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
