Default Mower suggestions?

Hello all,

My boys are doing yards this summer and I was hoping to equip them with some more Cubs. Definitely not up for a ZTR yet...too many things to go wrong. We have a 1250 with a 44" and have liked it. I would love to hear some opinions...what are other Cubs that will do well for a small yard business (parts availability, reliability, and speed)? Have a great day!

Dave

I would look for a nice 1811. The 18hp magnum has enough power to mow with a 50" deck at full speed without bogging down.

I agree with Tim. There were several models that are similar to the 1811 that will work the same. Some may have manual lift.

It seems the cyclops series machines are easy to find. Other than the boys possibly hitting things and busting the hoods.... they are also good candidates. Later ones had power steering. The cyclops and 1811 are very different in appearance, but very similar "platforms".

Jon also has a good suggestion. Cyclops tractors like the 1440 and 1641 are all over the place and fairly inexpensive.

What he said. Just remember that's a 30 year old machine so get one that's ready to go to work and not ready for the shop!

Huge help guys! Thanks! Has anyone come up with a good process to fix the cyclops hood? I have seen glass and epoxy resin bond well and then receive paint over it but wasn't sure if anything else worked better.

Yep. Buy new ones. They're still available.

The 18xx and Cyclops are good machines but if you are mowing you need to check out the 3000 series also. They are an all metal machine, tight radius power steering, hydraulic lift and foot controlled hydro.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
