Cub cadet 71 restoration
Hi, I'm new to this, so here goes
I'm restoring my 1966 71 cub. The bolts on my seat spring are worn. I was looking for IH stamped bolts, but am having a hard time finding them. I'm thinking of going stainless. Anybody have any pros or cons on stainless? |

No comment on my end on what you use for fasteners. Your tractor, your money. But please start a thread when you start your restore. We here enjoy watching others progress on their projects. Many here have done restorations, and documented them in a thread. Pictures are a plus, as we are picture hogs... One that comes to mind, you may be interested in, was Tim's (Olds) restoration of his grandads 100. I did an original a few years back. A link to the thread is on the bottom. Again welcome, you will find a wealth of knowledge here, and some great folks as well.

First, welcome to OCC.....
IF, you are concerned about being 100% OEM restoration accurate on your bolts and fasteners, it may take a lot of time finding IH embossed bolts. IH did NOT use Stainless Steel hardware. Thus, you will have to decide on being correct or use stainless steel.

Welcome to OCC and thanks for the pix. Looks like a nice tractor to start with!
Regarding IH bolts...there's plenty of 'em on Ebay... you may have to clean them up some (or not) but there's always some there. John

As John said the IH bolts can be found if you do some searching.
I am in the process of restoring a 100 and i'm going to use the original bolts that came out of it. Good luck and as others have said these guys are a great help, so don't be afraid to ask.

I'll take the IH monogram/stamped IH bolts if you decide to go with the softer, stainless steel metal bolts!
Welcome!

Cub cadet 71 restoration
Thanks for everyone's input! I'm hoping to get back out in the garage and back to it.
Which brings me to my next question. I have used the mail paint and the harder from tractor supply to paint my neighbor's John deere ( it will never look as good as the cub).it turned out great. I was goin to get the mtd paint, but I'm sure there are many good options. I'm also going to use an air spray...no rattle can! Just wondering if anybody has had any better luck with a certain brand as opposed to others |

I am a fan of the case IH Iron Gard paint, If you have a Case IH dealer near you they should have it or can get it. I have painted 3 tractors with it and like how it sprays and the finish, for me turned out really good.

What Larry said. The case IH paint works great. And very easy to apply.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
