Default 129 question

Hello from Pa. Have a bit of a problem with my 129, fires right up idles and runs great for about 20 to a half hour with the PTO engaged cuts great then all of a sudden it starts acting like its running out of gas, and wants to die out I can choke it and it stays running but not for long. I drained the fuel tank put new gas in and put a new fuel filter on and no change runs great then 20 minutes later it stalls out. Any help would surly be appreciated Thanks Big John from Pennsylvania

Sounds like something is getting hot then dies. I assume, once it cools down, you can repeat the procedure.

Just because it's easy, check the coil to see if there is power on the pos and neg sides, the next time it stops running (make sure the key is on and remember to turn the engine so the points are open or there will be no power on the neg side).

Some of the heat related issues are:

* The ignition coil gets hot, the windings expand, then the coil dies.

* The exhaust valve gets hot, the stem expands and binds in the valve guide.

Once the tractor dies, check the primary Ignition Coil resistance with a meter to see if it falls within specifications.

Check to see if you have compression when this situation occurs.

Usually it falls into one of these categories but could be other circumstances.

A agree with what others have said about the possible issues with the coil or the exhaust valves. I'd like to add my thought... the gas tank may not be venting properly. Check the gas cap.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
