Is where you park your tractor heated or is it outside temperature. If the location is cold could you possibly have a dose of water in the tranny that froze and caused your drive shaft problem.

Okay so the input shaft spins in both directions. I had to put a rag on the teeth and use a small wrench to get it to turn. It didn't take much effort at all. I tried to spin it with my fingers, but clearly I have no finger strength lol.

I'm looking to fix this ASAP and use it for the remainder of the season. I'm thinking the coupler assembly, new hydro filter and new hytran for the time being. What do you guys think? Is this something I can do in an hour or so? Any pointers on changing the fluid?

The fan is destroyed too, but I'm guessing the driveshaft will need pulled to install it. I think ultimately I would want to swap out that driveshaft to the CV style cyclops driveshaft when the weather breaks.

Attached is another picture of the input shaft teeth. It isn't bad, but it isn't great either. It looks like a little chunk was taken off on a tooth. The end of the teeth have a significant bevel too (maybe it is supposed to be that way?).

Paul, this was my first thought exactly. The tractor is in a non heated garage. The garage is insulated, but it still remains close to the ambient temperature outside.

Moving forward, I wonder if placing a small heater near the tractor before use would help? Especially with temps in the low 20's (degrees F).

The original spirol pin might be in the shaft from how the picture looks. If the new coupler doesn't slide on, file the bur off the end pf the spline. My replacement coupler is longer on the splines than the original.

I wanna know where you got the seat for that tractor, cause if you couldn't feel that vibrating, it must be one hell of a seat!

Is there enough room to drill and tap the input shaft for a 1/4-28 X 1.0 Lg GR5 bolt with a belleville washer? This is what is used when using the CV style driveline we've been putting into many 1572s and 1772s. The bolt and the belleville washer should hold the adapter on the input shaft more securely.

Doc, I have no idea how I didn’t notice it. It never seemed bad. That’s why I initially thought some water froze in the hydro pump/tranny and caused it to go bad. It definitely looks like it has been wearing out for a long time though. Very weird.
