Rotary Tiller Model #1 project
Folk,
Need some advice on this tiller. Its Field Fresh! I have been aging this for about 7-8 years. Is it worth saving? At this time I have 1/2 can of Blaster invested in it. Plus the time to drag it into the garage, These are heavy! It is a Model #1 Serial number 13555. Has the extensions on each end. Tines have some wear, but probably would still turn dirt for a garden. It does roll over, very stiff and slowly Seems that most of the moving parts do move. Nothing frozen solid that I can see. Was considering this as a future Cub implement project? At this time I do not have the very important gear drive unit that mounts on the back of the tractor to run one of these So that would need to be purchased. What would you do? Where to start, and what are the major things to watch for? Thanks in advance for your help. I have not researched this implement on OCC but know that a lot of folks have them. Some pictures, at its worst! Regards, Chris

Todd,
You found me! Blaster has a way of getting into the forum posts! NO Way! If I am into this then your in too! I am not going to do this by myself! There!! I'm OK now, just a small temper tantrum Maybe your kind way of saying that this thing is a piece of C**P, and would make a nice boat anchor or fish structure in the Bay? I can take it, go ahead tell me! Save it or Scrap it? We can vote Regards, Chris

Looks like it's too far gone to save. I'll tell you what, ship it out to me and I'll dispose of it for you. I'll even pay shipping!

Chris, you should know by now I never say anything I don't mean. If I thought it was junk, I would tell you. Just go down to the hardware or cub dealer and order one on Mon!
To me, if it's no longer avaleble, it's worth looking into. I junked out a tractor once, biggest mistake I made. Should have kept it around for parts. Took everything off I thought I could use, wrong move. A big mistake on my part. There was something I didn't take off, long story, keep it

Todd and folks,
Just kidding most of the time. I listen to what your saying. I have a real good Troy built 7 hp Kohler walk behind. I paid $350 for half of it my brother owns the half that breaks or doesn't work So I have a tiller for the garden. I have just started to look at this tiller unit. It has been setting since the neighbor drug it home and gave it to me a while ago. Ok so on the positive side the belt cover is a good thing. Todd, did you ever solve yours throwing the belt? I agree that if I throw it away I will probably need it later! I think I through away a SG for a Cub a few years ago thenrie, wants me to ship it to him, Humm, maybe there is some value in this old unit yet This tiller has a lot of rust, and some dents dings, and rust! have not found any serious rust holes yet. I may take out a few bolts just to see if they come loose. Regards, Chris

I would try to get it back up and running. Unless there is something major mechanical wrong it shouldn't be to bad of a project.
But like already mentioned, this one has the belt cover and extensions already. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
