I have seen that blade arrangement on a Yard Man (MTD) lawn tractor of the same era as the 1225. Since the 1225 was made by MTD it would not be unusual to find them on it. It is a mulching blade and the MTD part number is 942-0539.

Hi Double07 I went from the tractor owner's manual orig. p/n 742-3009 through supercessions to the Stens p/n 325-742. There was an interchange that also included Oregon 91-057. The width, thickness, length, hole size and location, and close-up photos of the blade tip configuration all match exactly, so I'm confident I'm replacing the blade with an exact equivalent of what I'm removing.
I've also attached another photo of the blade stack installed with the nut tightened; the photo you referred to had the nut loose. There is one spindle thread exposed through the nut, and the blade tip is approx. 7/16" above the bottom of the deck when the whole shebang is installed. My primary question is whether there should be nuts and bolts installed through the 5/16" side holes of the new blade, through the spacers and the "shortie" blades to maintain 90 deg. indexing. I plan on just sharpening the short guys and putting them back on with their spacers to maintain the main blade height and spindle nut location, which I think are both correct. I will also install bolts through the side holes, bolt head at the top and nuts on the bottom against the main blade, 'cause it seems like it oughta be that way. And of course my secondary question is what the heck is going on? I can be happy with a vague mention of "mulching magic", but I'd prefer a deeper understanding, personally. I strive to be smarter than a mower blade!
