Default Adding hydraulics to a narrow frame hydro

Ok guys. I really want a hydro lift on the 105 but can't afford a factory lift. I have an old Bolens hydro tractor with lift cylinder, hoses and control valve. This runs of an Eaton pump that also runs the trans. So if I fabbed up some brackets to get the cylinder mounted, how would I plumb it? Would I need to swap in a ported hydro from an 82 series tractor? One just sold near me for like $45 on epay. I am more interested in usability than originality. Thanks for the help. Oh yeah the control valve that is on the parts tractor has three ports and the lift had up/down and float originally.

Use the valve and cylinder, and go to a junkyard and get a car PS pump to run the hydraulics.

OK, but wouldn't a ported hydro pump do the same thing? Then it would look less frankensteinish. I am not worried about modification but the less the better. Can I swap a non ported pump for a ported?

Yes. However, you may have issues routing the hydraulic lines. There isn't a whole lot of room under the NF tractors for stuff. If you're going to go that route, make sure there's room up there somewhere for the hydraulic lines.

Oh, and connecting them is going to be next to impossible under there... There's no place to put the wrenches without a removable tunnel cover. I am not a fan of cutting holes in the frame either....that's gonna look far worse than a PS pump on there. The PS pump setup would also be easier to remove and return the tractor to it's factory setup if you for some reason want to sell it and get a different tractor to install it on.

Hey Matt thanks for the advice. Maybe I will just look for a Cub with on board hydraulics. Did any of the NFs come with hydro lift standard?

The 147 came with electric lift. But I think the rest of the narrow frames came with manual lift

Mike,

The hydraulic lift on the NF's was optional.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
