Default Sleeve Hitch on 982..

The 982 I am looking at has part of the sleeve hitch installed now. I need to add the rest to it to complete it. The upper portion of a sleeve hitch is on it, (the cast piece at the top where the round pin slides into that supports the 2 verticale pieces that pint to bottom frame). I need to add the bottom part of the frame as well as the two flat verticle plates that hook to the pin. Is there a place that is better than another to buy these parts at? Or is it better and cheaper to just go to a machine shop and get the pieces made?

So I need basically everything in this picture..... Has anyone ever made all these parts correctly and cheaper on their own without having to buy the entire kit from a supplier?

question for ya'll.....

The two bolts that are used to tighten against the clevis of the implement attached to the sleeve - are they just grade 5 bolts or do you have to have grade 8 bolts to put up with the constant preasure against the hitch? Or does it matter?

Also, what would the "proper" paint colour be for the sleeve hitch if you were adding it to an IH 982 (red machine)?

Mountain Heritage,

Unless you just like to build things like this Its probley cheeper in the long run to buy one Just my

I have made a couple for my tractors. But it takes a lot longer than it looks like it should. Its kinda fun when you are building 1 for yourself, but if i had to charge for my time and materials, You figure out pretty fast why the factory ones bring big money.

The 1st one i built.

Didnt take me long to figure out i needed a X brace.

GREAT JOB!! I like what you did to make these. So what colour is that you painted them - the true Cub off white or is it just a rattle can that was close to the colour?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
