Talking Took a road trip for inspiration

Just passed 6th yr on OCC. Occasional poster but figured that would certainly increase when I started restoring the two "O's" and the 100 that I purchased, thinking they would be great to work on during my retirement. Well retirement happened yr and a half ago, and the restorations, well let's just say "life got in the way. Seems wife, and adult kids, all think that dad has nothing but time on his hands. So Mike / Dad can you pick this up, watch the shop while I'm gone, build a shed, takes dogs to the vet, fix the plumbing, paint the xyz, pick up... well, you get the idea. And of course I'm not sure where all of that "free time" was suppose to come from cause I was already busier than a one arm paper hanger.
Well yesterday I took a ride to visit a member you lives less than 30 miles from me in the bordering state. I took a ride to NJ, went the back roads so didn't need a passport, and spent a wonderful afternoon with Darkminion 17. It was great meeting Lew and seeing ALL of his tractors, too many to count, and parts, and supplies. Very gracious and helpful answering questions, showing me around. All this on top of the fact that he was getting his tractor ready for the PA plow day. So I really want to thank Lew and now it's time to start working on my Cubs. And the good thing about all this is I now have a great source of parts, to replace anything I break, right around the corner.
Thank you Lew,
MikeC

Mike,
First off, I love you sig line.

Lew is a great guy and I can only imagine how cool he would be to spend a day with.

As far as your retirement.... well I'm not retired and won't be for a long time. Matter of fact, my dad isn't even retired. If I could give you any advice that you would be willing to accept it would be you and only you get to decide what you do with your time. My dad always told us kids that when we got to be adults, we were responsible for ourselves. They were there to "help", but only if we really needed it. My parents live in the house that my great-grandmother built, and are now remodeling it. Dad is a very talented man and is even building all the cabinets for the kitchen and bathrooms from wood harvested from his dad's woods. It's very cool, and he is amazing. Point is, he and mom are busy, and have no problems saying "NO" when they are asked to give up a weekend to keep my kids just so I can "get stuff done". "Nope, not this weekend. You mom and I are busy." They love the grandkids and love to keep them..... but aren't giving up the things they love to raise my kids, run errands for me (or any of my brothers). He and moms time is their time. They raised their kids and want to enjoy their grandkids and the years they have together before they get too old to do the things they love. (Like ride the Goldwing all over the US.) Point is, you can say no. It's really ok. If your kids don't understand..... well.... someday they will.

Jonathan,
Yeah, I know, and although I complain I think most of it is, as the wife says, "just to hear myself talk." In reality, I do say no quite often, but I do enjoy helping them out, and as far as the "free time" the wife and kids now say it just as a joke. You are right, it was blast seeing Lew, and I think just the inspiration I needed to get stated on the tractors. Just need to clear some crap out of the workshop. And the other problem, well I'm the type of guy that always has 4 or 5 projects going on at the same time. So I got to get that narrowed down the 1 or 2. We'll see how it goes.

Only 4 or 5? LOL, I have 3 Kohlers sitting here for customers to rebuild, and I've started on that many more for me, or for resale. Then like 10 other projects of mine. LOL. When you get too many going, just pick one and stick with it. Seems like when I try and spend a little time on each one, I don't get anything done.

Having more than one thing going is beneficial though..... you can work on one while you wait for parts on another.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
